Milestones

The maternal granparents are arriving today to visit Emilia (note: to avoid any misconceptions, they are not coming to visit us, they are coming to visit Emilia). It is likely to be a busy week, so here some contemplations before jumping into the car for airport.

Just 5 minutes ago, I personally got an experience that must be one of the most endearing ones in your life. My little baby smiled at me the first time. And not just any random tugging of the lips into a smilelike grin. This time she was lying in my arms, looking a long time into my eyes, and after a moment broke into a huge smile, all the time watching me. My heart melted immediately. What a feeling.

Such small milestones seem to come almost daily for Emilia, and for the parents. Here are some examples:

- first time the two of us spending a time home without the mom (scary!) - about two weeks ago
- first bottle feeding (breastmilk), very successful! - a week ago
- first time lifting her head - about a minute after birth
- first time pooping twice and peeing once between the time her father took the old diaper off and put the new one in - about one week old
- first time shopping - long time ago, documented earlier
- first time eating out - long time ago, also documented earlier
- first time feeding in a public place - about two weeks ago
- first time passport photo taken - two weeks ago (application for a US passport submitted last weekend)
- first time pooping so massively that it was everywhere - about a week ago
- first animal friends - about a week ago. These are large black and white pictures of "sorsa" - a duck - and "kisu" - a kitty - that are posted on the wall above her changing table. She LOVES to ogle at them.
- first time watching American Idol final - last Tuesday with daddy
- first letters in her name - about three weeks ago (social security card and the birth certificate)
- and many more

It is an amazing time.
