It might have been a grave mistake to get Emilia the pink sleeping sack that has cute sheep pictures. Namely, it haas the word "baaa!" written on the chest. I mean, that is the only possible place where she could have learned that. You know, the "BAAAAAAAAAA!" part. I know they are not supposed to read yet, but as has been concluded, she is a prodigy.
Our little vocalist is nowadays exercising her vocal chords with an amazing array of animal sounds. Besides the obvious not at all sheepish sheep tune (mostly though a Finnish sheep that says "Maa", not the more American "Baa" - and maybe "Naaa" is a sheep from Tampere, anyone?), the recent soundbites include quite some piggish burping oinks (must go with the territory of being pink and cute and eating all day?). In addition, some impressive snoring was noted today, which I figured represents a sleeping bear - do not wake me, or else... The funkiest sound, however, I picked up last night when she is sleeping and letting out a trumpeting sound when exhaling. It just was so funny. After spending quite a while listening, I in the end concluded that it actually quite much resembled the call of wild swans. If that sounds noble and romantic, try again imagining having a swan in your bedroom.
Oh, and she growls. And huffs and puffs. A wolf, then, as well? Yes, we do have a zoo at our hands.
On a related, yet unrelated topic... If she grows bilingual, how am I going to explain her that in Finnish animals say different things than in English? Is it like that of course the chicken in US say "pot pot" because they speak chicken English, and those in Finland go "kot kot" because they speak chicken Finnish? I do not think that holds water. Man, I got to figure out the answer in advance, as making animal sounds with your father is definitely a critical part of growing up. But I have no idea why cats go "meow" in both places, but dogs are like from a different planet - I mean "woof" vs. "how". Jeez. This parenting stuff brings some completely new intellectual challenges, doesn't it.
PS. If this does not make sense, or alternatively makes more sense than usual, wish improvement of, or continuation to my slightly sleep deprived state of mind.
PS2. Writing this on Nokia N810 Internet Tablet now. What a brilliant blogging device. Go get yours immediately.
