In the beginning, there was a blog

... or more precisely, before the beginning. Before the birth of our daugther, that is. 99.9% certainly she will be a daughter. According to the very assertive sonogramming nurse.

I always was too lazy to do any proper writing, and I get bored with new things easily, so the chances of this blog getting a long and intense life are slim. Despite the bleak prognosis, I decided to join the blogosphere and write about my life, thoughts, and stuff in general, as they relate to the upcoming baby. But of course the most important part will be a lot of "look how cute she is" and "is she not the most wondrous thing in the world" -type essential information and insight, if nothing else, for the benefit of the families in Finland. And to prove in writing that an adult man can and will be lost for life with the birth of the child. I see that happening with most of my friends, and am really looking forward to that personally.

Today is the last day before the year when everything changes. Time to turn the leaf. And it has started. For Xmas, my lovely wife got me two exciting things: 1) The Complete Idiot's Guide to Fatherhood, and 2) subscription to "The American Baby" magazine. Sweet.

#1 is OK, with useful insight, such as the number of blankets an infant needs ("at least half a dozen". Why so many???), funnyish jokes, like "if you feel anxious and tired, get drunk (just kidding!)", and unfortunately some somewhat ugly attitude (no mention that both parents can work full time and family can still be happy..?).

#2 I expect to hate actively due to assumed complete ignorance of the existence of fathers, expect as the wallet, the handyman, and in general a very useful creature to serve according to the ruling mother's whims. But I am hoping I will be wrong.

Notes:

The name of the blog is obviously a reference to Ms. Peppi Kastanja, soon to be 1 year, my amazing niece, who will be joined in the family baby ranks be a new cousin in America. It also pays homage to my role model in blogging, my brother-in-law Sammeli, whose sharp wit and humor are available at (http://tiitsku.livejournal.com/)

I may sometimes write in English or then in Finnish. I do not know. Or both.

Just nyt ei jaksa kirjoittaa suomeksi lisää. Ehkä toiste. Katsotaan.
